.md files are literally plain text files and should not be any different from previewing .txt files. Of course, it would be even better to have the ability to preview the rendered versions too but, for a starter, it should be good enough to be able to preview the markdown files.

I would also find this very useful if that helps encourage the dev team to more strongly consider adding this feature.
